ipadThomas Nelson and Zondervan were among the first publishers to release titles for Apple’s new iPad digital-media device this past weekend, according to Christian Retailing magazine. Over 300,000 iPads sold on the launch day last Saturday and more than 250,000 e-books were downloaded.

Nelson released 1,200 titles on the iPad, including Max Lucado’s Fearless and Dave Ramsey’s The Total Money Makeover. They were available available for download Saturday on iBooks, Apple’s digital book store. Nelson CEO Michael Hyatt said, “We are extremely pleased that Thomas Nelson has the largest collection of inspirational titles available on such a revolutionary reading device.”

Thomas Nelson Publishers, the 7th largest trade publisher, with a predominately Christian catalog, has sued the Zondervan Corporation, the Christian publishing division of HarperCollins, the number 2 trade publisher, which is owned by Newscorp. Thomas Nelson Publishers has launched NelsonFree, a program that gives readers a book, audiobook and e-book—all for a single price.When you purchase the physical book, you get free access to the digital media. There are instructions in the book about how to download the specially coded digital files.
