Sony Pictures has acquired screen rights to Heaven Is for Real: A Little Boy’s Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back by Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent. The book was published by Thomas Nelson and has climbed the NYT Bestseller list since last November.

The Christian Small Publishers Association (CSPA) has announced the winning titles for the 2011 Christian Small Publisher Book of the Year Award. The Christian Small Publisher Book of the Year Award honors books produced by small publishers each year for outstanding contribution to Christian life. Book lovers and retailers selling Christian products voted on the nominated titles in each of eight categories.

Thomas Nelson, Inc. announced this week that Mark Schoenwald, its current President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), has been named president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He assumes the CEO position from Michael Hyatt, who is stepping out of active management of the company but will continue to serve as chairman of the board.

Jerry B. Jenkins’ Christian Writers Guild has acquired Sally Stuart’s Christian Writers Market Guide, the annual guide to Christian publishing industry writing markets.
Jenkins amassed million of dollars as the co-author, with Dr. Tim LaHaye, of the Left Behind series.

Howard Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, has announced in a news release that it has signed a multi-book agreement with Christian novelist Karen Kingsbury. She has 15 million books in print and is known as America’s favorite inspirational fiction writer. Kingsbury’s first book under the new agreement is scheduled to be published in late 2012.
