Thomas Nelson Publishers announced that the quarter ending Sept. 30, 2007 was the largest in its 209-year history.

Nelson recently consolidated its various divisions into a “one company” focus in order to meet consumer needs. Company CEO Michael Hyatt credits to the reorganization as the reason for increased profits.

On a consolidated basis, Nelson’s net revenues were up 10% for the quarter and 10% for the first six months of its fiscal year, company officials said. Nelson’s net revenues were up 12% for the six months ending Sept. 30.

For the six months ending Sept. 30, the strongest growth category was Gift Books up 53%, Nelson officials said. Other categories with double-digit growth in the last year were Curriculum (39%) and Business & Culture (15%).

The ministry division, which sells Nelson’s products directly to consumers and churches, increased sales 35% over last year. All of Nelson’s retail sales channels also experienced double-digit growth. The mass-market channel, which includes Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club and Costco, grew 30%, the general book retail channel increased by 16%, and the Christian retail channel saw a 15% growth over last year, Nelson officials said.

Additionally, Nelson has had 10 books on the New York Times best-seller lists so far this fiscal year, including Denise Jackson’s It’s All About Him, John and Stasi Eldredge’s Captivating and Max Lucado’s 3:16.

Nelson expects continued double-digit growth in the second have of the fiscal year due to new releases coming from John Maxwell, John Eldredge, Chuck Swindoll and Ted Dekker.
